Koge is an interpretation of Shou Sugi Ban, the centuries-old Japanese method of preserving and finishing cedar wood using fire. As the wood is burned, it becomes charred black with a distinctive crackle texture to the finish.
The color Kuro in this series recreates the traditional Shou Sugi Ban look. Shiro is how the treated wood looks when the charred cedar is then painted. Gure is the effect of if the charred surface was scraped away revealing the natural wood grain.
